Republican Values?

I found a list of 'Reasons why we are Republican' on the claycountyrepublicans.com website. I took the liberty of responding to them, there we go:

Republican Philosophy
Dem Response:
WE ARE REPUBLICANS BECAUSE

We believe that the proper function of government is to do for the people those things that have to be done but cannot be done, or cannot be done as well, by individuals, and that the most effective government is government closest to the people.
Dem: This is something we can all agree on. You don’t have to be a Republican to believe that the Federal Government has no business butting into local issues, like they did in the Terri Schiavo case, for instance. However, talk is cheap…

We believe that good government is based on the individual and that each person's ability, dignity, freedom, and responsibility must be honored and recognized.
Dem: Once again, we can all agree with this basic tenet of democracy. Government should stand out of the way of individuals attempting to create for themselves a world of happiness. Of course, this only applies if you haven’t been declared an Enemy Combatant or Terrorist supporter while you are allowed no chance to counter the charges…

We believe that free enterprise and the encouragement of individual initiative and incentive have given this nation an economic system second to none.
Dem: We believe that up until FDR gave us the New Deal and gave Unions the ability to bargain for a share in the prosperity of the nation, our economic system was the best in the world only for the wealthiest in the nation.

We believe that sound money management should be a top priority for government.
Dem: You could never tell this was a core belief of Republicans, since they are even now borrowing money from China to fight the current War On Terror. We are borrowing five hundred billion dollars per year.

We believe in equal rights, equal justice, and equal opportunity for all.
Dem: Nothing to add here, once again this is a universal value, not a Republican value.

We believe that we must retain those principles of the past, yet always be receptive to new ideas with an outlook broad enough to accommodate thoughtful change and varying points of view.
Dem: Like the principle that you are innocent until proven guilty, or that the USA would never commit torture, or that no man is above the law…I could go on, you get the idea

We believe that Americans value and should preserve their feeling of national strength and pride, and at the same time share with people everywhere a desire for peace and freedom and the extension of human rights throughout the world.
Dem: I thought pride was a sin. They value your human rights unless you are an immigrant, Palestinian, Muslim, accused of being a Terrorist, Democrat, stem-cell scientist, or anyone that doesn’t agree with the Vice President.

Finally, we believe that the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.
Dem: Finally, we believe that Republicans have a great line of thought, but can’t seem to act up to their words. After a decade of Republican control of Congress we have record deficits, a record national debt, we are losing the war for the hearts and minds of the world’s Muslim population, there are record amounts of graft and corruption in the people’s House, there is no Check or Balance on an Executive Branch run amok, spying is being allowed, with no oversight, on US citizens, the US Army is just about destroyed, the National Guard is just about destroyed, the Army Reserve is destroyed, gasoline prices and oil company profits are at record highs…SHAMEFUL!

On Democratic Elections

We are about to embark on the selection of the next Congress of the United States. Every two years our wonderful nation selects four hundred and thirty five men and women to represent the two hundred and eighty million souls that inhabit this country. The Constitution mandates that the House of Representatives be populated with representatives that are directly elected by the people that they represent. This is why a vacancy in this body must be filled by a special election, not by an appointment by a Governor or State House.

In the district in Missouri in which I live, my representative represents me and 644,443 other Missourians, and should be representing our collective interests to the Federal Government. What are the issues that Missouri should care about in this election cycle, at the Federal level?

In my mind, the number one issue that the nation faces is whether we even need a Congress these days. The laws that are on the books right now are ignored at will by the Administration because we are ‘at war’. The fact that we are ‘at war’ is not debated at all by the existing members of Congress, despite the fact that they did not declare us to be ‘at war’. The fact that there are men in uniform who are shooting and being shot at in a country far away must mean that we are ‘at war’. Another Congress gave the President permission to have our soldiers shoot at other soldiers, and that has meant that we are ‘at war’. I know that our Constitution only gives the power to declare the nation to be ‘at war’ to the Congress, but that only holds true if the men and women representing us enforce it. The President has been saying for quite some time that we are ‘at war’ with Terror. However, the Congress has never declared this war either.

Like I said, because we are ‘at war’ our President has claimed extra power for himself to ignore duly passed and signed legislation that limits his Executive power. He has in some cases suspended Habeas Corpus without permission from Congress. He has broken federal law that regulates when and how he can collect intelligence on citizens of the nation on American soil. He has caused men, women and children that were in the custody of the USA to be tortured in violation of Federal law and ratified treaties. He has spent our national treasure in ways that were contrary to the law of the land. All of this because we are ‘at war’ with Terror. Will it end when Terror surrenders? Will there be a huge national celebration at VT day? Can we expect that a future President will cede all of these ‘War Powers’ back to Congress after that glorious day? Of course since the President decided that we were ‘at war’ it will be up to the President to say that we have finally won (or lost) the war, so I would expect that this future President would have to want to give up these powers in order to be persuaded that the ‘war’ is over.

Bush Considers Armegeddon

I just finished reading something that stunned me to my core. According to the Washington Post, the US is actually considering starting a nuclear war. It is also in the New Yorker. Please read this web log that describes what the world might look like the day after we do the dumbest, most criminal thing in the history of the world...

http://billmon.org/archives/002375.html

In this very informative and imaginative post, the author describes just what is at stake for America as we go into the rabbit hole of being the first one to strike against a defenseless nation with a nuclear weapon.

The New Yorker article is here...

If you think they might not really do it, think again. They cannot begin to believe that we will stand for this, or they will do it, sure as the sun will rise. Just as soon as you are done reading, write to your congressman or woman and let them know that you will not stand by while the Administration turns the US into a world pariah.

Then go to www.claycountydemocrats.org and do something to get the crazies out of the government. The Rapture is not going to save anyone.

So the Hammer got Nailed!

Well, it was bound to happen, because the truth always gets out. However, even as he succumbs to his fate he has to go down lying. I don't believe that he is resigning from the House because he just has to change residence to Virginia as soon as possible. I think he is resigning because he knows that his new residence will soon be a Federal Penitentiary. Which on will it be? I think Federal crimes take precedence, so he will have to serve his Federal sentences before he begins serving his Texas sentences. I think that it was the Abramoff probe that got him, not the Texas probe.

The Right IS WRONG!

I am here to tell you, the right has never, in my life, been so wrong!

--they are wrong to hitch their wagons to a falling star

--they are wrong to put party interests above the interest of their constituents

--they are wrong to put office-holding above the interest of their constituents

--they are wrong to put corporate interests above the interest of their constituents (hint: companys dont vote)

--they are wrong to spend like there is no tomorrow

--they are wrong to borrow instead of save

--they are wrong, if you cut tax revenue to zero, that doesn't correspond with infinite tax revenues due to economic growth

--they are wrong to think you can kill enough people to create a democracy

--they are wrong to think that we aren't watching

--they are wrong to think that they can cow us into line

--they are wrong to think that their name-calling hurts us

--they are wrong to think that they wont pay for their crimes
